TTOMA - 2001 Model/Event of
the Year Rules
CO2 Old-Timer Gas Replica
CO2 Motor: G-MOT GM 120 w/5cc Tank Weight: Engine, Tank & Prop = 19 gms (o.67 ozs)
Mfgr’s Recommended Model Specs: Wing Span: 19.6” to 27.5” Weight: 50 to 70 gms (1.75 to 2.5 ozs)
The intent of these rules is to offer modelers the opportunity to exercise their skills in producing a good flying model which retains its original appearance, without the burden of excessive building/material restrictions.
Model: Only SAM Legal Old Time Gas Models, designed, kitted, or plans published prior to 1/1/42. Model may be a scaled version. Contestant must be the builder of the model. Model construction should follow the plan outline form, cross sections, airfoil, etc. Minor deviations are acceptable, i.e., DT modifications, motor/tank access, etc. Rudders and stabilizers with airfoils may be built flat, however surface must be covered on both sides. NOTE: If you intend to fly your model(s) in this event and in FAC’s Old-Timer Electric Gas Replica event, be sure to read the FAC Rules before starting construction. FAC has a maximum wing span of 30” and building material restrictions.
Flying: Per purposed 2002 AMA Rules for CO2, as follows:
Engine Run: Length of the engine run, after the model shall not be timed.
Flight Maximum: The maximum recorded duration shall be two(2) minutes, including qualified flyoff flights.
Launching: Shall be as specified for hand launch of land plan models, AMA Free Flight General.
Official Flight: Flights of 40 seconds or more are official flights. Flights of less than 40 seconds may be declared official by the contestant. The contestant’s decision must be made immediately and cannot be reversed later.
Unofficial Flight: a. When the total flight time is less than 40 seconds, if the contestant’s option described in the official flight paragraph is not exercised.
b. When the model collides with another model during an official flight, the contestant may declare the flight to be unofficial. The decision must be made immediately and cannot be reversed later.
c. When model parts are dropped or model is aided by the flier during the official portion of the flight, either directly or by artificial means.
Number of Flights: Each contestant shall be allowed a total of six (6) attempts to make three (3) official flights. All flights, official and unofficial are considered as attempts.
Flyoff Flights: If the three (3) official flights total the maximum allowed, then a series of flyoff flights may be taken. The engine must run for a minimum of thirty (30) seconds prior to launching on the first (1st) flight, and increased by thirty (30) seconds on each subsequent flyoff flight. Flyoffs may continue until the contestant’s model fails to reach the flight maximum. Only one (1) attempt is permitted for each flyoff flight. The official timer shall be responsible for timing the pre-launch engine run and flyoff time, which begins upon lunching. No engine adjustments, direct or indirect, are allowed during the pre-launch engine run(s), except in the event that the engine starts and runs in reverse. In such cases, the contestant may stop the engine, have the timing official reset his timer, and begin anew. No additional fuel (CO2) is to be allowed.

ENLARGED AL LIDBERG OLD TIMER PLANS
FOR TTOMA CO2 OLD-TIMER EVENT
Available from F. B. “Frank” Hodson @ $5.00 each plus postage
This is a modified (most plans have been enlarged) chart put together by Al Lidberg* as a selection aid. The categorization is
his. The scale used in Wing Span, Building Ease, Flight Capability, and Charisma columns is 1 to 5, with 5 being the
highest/best rating. The wing spans shown are approximates and are plan spans (flat), not projected. Thus the finished model
wing span will be less than shown.
NOTE: Some of the plans show special modifications for rubber and/or electric
power. These are not acceptable for this event as they do not conform to the original model configuration/outline
as specified in the rules.
